Mike Gehling, a 1988 graduate of the Mechanical Engineering program at Iowa State University and a 1993 master’s graduate in Business Administration from Winona State University, has been involved in hotel renovation/construction since 1981. Mike started with a publicly traded hotel company and worked his way to VP, Engineering, overseeing the remodeling/renovation/new construction of 24 full service hotels around the country. He moved to the Minneapolis area in 1997 as the VP, Hotel Design and Engineering of a major national hotel developer. Mike oversaw the new construction/renovation of over 34 properties with some commercial and residential work. Mike has extensive experience working with all brands from the full service (i.e. Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton) to intermediate/focused service properties (i.e. Courtyard, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Springhill Suites, Best Western) to limited service and extended stay brands (i.e. Residence Inn, Homewood Suites, TownePlace Suites, Fairfield Inn & Suites)
He has extensive knowledge of brand requirements and what is truly important to the brand and the franchisee. He is very comfortable with new construction or renovation and his work history is approximately 50% renovation/50% new construction.
